County Council buys out of Megadump Contract

After months of strife Williamsburg County Council finally acquiesced and is offering to buy out MMR Southern's contract for $750,000. Whats funny is up until third reading on the ordinance everyone on council was all for the megadump. No one had a problem with the megadump going in Salters. No residents of the eastern part of the county had a compliant. Again we as a county are spending money we do not have just to keep people in political office. Will the council give up or even reduce their travel funds of over $70,000 to reduce its expense, I doubt it.

For more passive view of this council meeting read David Green of The Weekly Observer article.

Delegation Quotes

“What the heck are we doing? All you Republicans should be on the telephone ... trying to get (U.S. Sens.) Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham to get off their behinds in D.C. and help us deal with this recovery package.”
— Rep. Ken Kennedy, D-Williamsburg, expressing frustration Wednesday on the House floor about taking up bills dealing with abortions and the organization of labor unions when, he said, the state should be focusing on finding ways to deal with its budget woes.
